This is not a rug inspection.

Families often think fall risk is about hazards in the home. It's not — it's about the person, how they move, what medications they take, and how the environment interacts with their current ability.

A standard hazard check looks at:

  • Loose rugs and cords
  • Grab bar placement
  • General clutter
  • Generic checklist recommendations

This evaluation assesses:

  • Gait quality, step symmetry, and weight shifting
  • Transfer mechanics — bed, toilet, chair, car
  • Endurance threshold and fatigue patterns
  • Medication effects on balance and alertness
  • How the environment interacts with this specific person
  • Prioritized risks — not a 40-item generic list

60 minutes. Four focused phases.

1

10–15 minutes

Functional Snapshot

What changed recently? Hospitalizations, near-falls, confidence changes, medication shifts. This establishes the clinical context families cannot assess themselves.

2

20–25 minutes

Movement & Transfer Observation

Observation of sit-to-stand, bed transfers, bathroom entry, walker use, turning patterns, and short walks. Advanced clinical observation — not exercise instruction.

3

10–15 minutes

Environmental Interaction

The home environment is reviewed in context of this person's specific gait and ability. Risk is personalized — not generic. "Given this gait pattern, this threshold becomes high risk."

4

10 minutes

Immediate Debrief

Clear prioritization before leaving: high priority risks, moderate areas to monitor, and what is safe and low concern. Families leave with clarity, not overwhelm.

Simple, transparent options.
